Cast Film Coextrusion

The cast multilayer barrier films are produced with the coextrusion technology in three different configurations: feed block/monolayer die, feed block/multimanifold die or multimanifold die alone. During the cast film coextrusion process, the resin is extruded through a flat slit onto a chill roll where it is cooled progressively. The rotation speed of that roll controls the draw ratio and the final thickness of the structure.
The coextruded cast structures are often further transformed by thermoforming.

EVAL™ resins for cast film coextrusion

Any EVAL™ resin can be used for the cast coextrusion process, so also the super barrier resin type EVAL™ L171B. The main factors that have to be taken into account for the processing are the melt property of the different products entering in the composition of the structure and the end use of the structure.
The cast structure will have superior barrier properties and will mostly be used for the packaging of food and can also be further transformed by thermoforming, lamination or printing.
