Barrier to Oxygen
EVAL™ resins provide excellent barrier properties against the permeation of gas such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide,…

Several factors influence the barrier performance:
- The EVAL™ grade: the ethylene content is one factor affecting the oxygen barrier performances
- The degree of crystallinity
- The nature of the permeating gas: PHe > PCO2 > PO2 > PN2 > PAr
- The temperature: following the Arrhenius law, the permeability increases by about 3.3 times as the storage temperature increases from 20 to 35°C
- The relative humidity in the surrounding atmosphere: a highly humid atmosphere can decrease the oxygen barrier property. However, the loss of the oxygen barrier property is considerably reduced when the EVAL™ layer is coextruded between layers that effectively block moisture
- The thickness of the EVAL™ layer: the oxygen barrier property is linearly proportional to the thickness of the layer.
